Baby's first quilt

My mom made a flip-flop quilt for my baby. I have the best mama in the world!!

P.S.

I've decided to close my other blog for now. I just don't have the time or energy to post about work right now.

Social Worker

Yesterday I had my first meeting with the social worker. My home study agency is in Dallas, but the social worker has an office in Jacksonville. I had to go to his office for our first meeting. Jacksonville is about an hour from here and not at all a big town. I had directions so I wasn't too concerned with finding his office. How hard could it be?? Well let me just state for the record that Texas cities, by far, have the MOST confusing 'downtown' areas I've ever seen. His office is on Main Street, which is not the 'main street' through town. It's a tiny little road tucked back behind the hospital. And, it splits at one point and picks up somewhere else. Very confusing. So, needless to say I was about 10 minutes late, which drives me crazy. I hate to be late. But, thankfully, he seemed to understand how confusing the streets are.

Overall I felt the meeting went well. I really wasn't nervous. We just chatted about adoption in general and he asked a few questions. The meeting lasted an hour. I did feel a little weird when we talked about the fact that I've requested a girl, 0 to 12 months. I almost got the feeling that he didn't understand requesting certain genders or ages, but he didn't say that out loud. He also asked about special needs children and I answered as honestly as I possibly could. I told him that I would consider certain special needs, but that as a single parent I need to be realistic about what I can handle both emotionally and financially, and I want to be fair to the child I bring home. He pondered that for a minute but again didn't say much. When I left I started second guessing myself and wondering what he was thinking. I wonder if I would have been more comfortable with a female social worker. It doesn't really matter because I didn't get a choice. I really think it went okay though. I have to go back next Tuesday at 1:00 for another meeting and then we'll schedule a home visit. I'm planning to spend a big part of my weekend cleaning my house.

Monday I had a doctor's appointment. I had medical forms that he had to fill out. That went well too. I didn't realize how many people adopt. He asked for the forms and said he does these all the time. He also told me that he has two adopted children. He spent a lot of time talking about that. The actual physical took about 2 minutes. But then there was the 15 minute wait to get a TB test and another 45 minute wait to get labs drawn. I forgot to tell him that the forms need to read "Cynthia" and not "Cindy" since that is what is on my birth certificate and passport. By the time his nurse got to him to tell him, he had already written "Cindy". So, I had to take new forms by yesterday. Then today I found out that Nepal requires TWO forms. So now I have to go back and take another set of forms. There are so many hoops to jump through and it seems every time I jump through one, it changes and I have to go back and do it all again. The whole process is starting to wear me down physically and emotionally. But I'm hanging in there! I will NOT give up!!

I need to send out a great big "THANK YOU" to everyone who has been so incredibly supportive. I am truly in awe and totally amazed at the amount of love, support and encouragement I've received from my friends and family. There are just no words to express my sincere gratitude. I love you all with all my heart!!!
